2007 Columbia City Fair
The City of Columbia, Maryland is proud to be recognized as one of
America's most successful planned cities AND has recently been
named to the top ten list of the most desirable places to live in the
United States. Born on June 21, 1967, Columbia was the brain child
and life's work of James Rouse, a renowned urban planner, real
estate developer and visionary. He is revered in Columbia and
residents continue to honor their founder and are fiercely proud of
the community that his vision built. Every summer, the city
celebrates its birthday with various activities and celebrations. In
2007 Columbia hit the big FOUR-OHH. To celebrate this milestone,
the Columbia Association hired
The Party Connoisseur to put on a
3-day City Fair and Carnival. TPC hired me and together we
published a 40-page magazine, produced banners and posters,
printed easy to carry cards with the entertainment schedule on one
side and the fair map on the other, advertised in area newspapers,
AND utilized an entirely new publicity medium (to me),
Rolling Ads,
a truck outfitted with billboards on each side as well as the back and
the front.

Note: The beautiful and colorful design of the magazine cover was done by Columbia
resident and very talented Howard Community College design student, Brendan Huza.
While I was responsible for the other 39 pages in the magazine (with the assistance of
Cynthia Coyle, another budding designer and Columbia resident), and all the other pieces
that promoted the fair, his wonderful work laid the foundation.
